How do I borrow a book from the library?
- The patron needs to have a library card
- Patron can borrow a maximum of 10 books for 14 days or two weeks, and she/he can renew those books for a further two weeks
How do I register for membership?
- The patron needs to visit the nearest library and request a membership form
- The applicant needs to complete a form; in the case of a junior/child, a parent or guardian must complete the form on his/her behalf.
- The following documents need to be attached to the form for verification by library staff
- Copy of ID
- Proof of address (Metro bill or a letter from a local councillor)
How do I search the library catalogue?
The library catalogue may be found here…https://library.durban.gov.za/
The user can:
- Search using title, author, ISBN, etc.
- Do renewals of their library material
- Search history, such as checking which books that he/she has read, especially for those who love reading.
- Check the most-used books.
- Check the availability of the book if it is available or not in any particular library.
When do patrons pay fines in the library?
Patrons pay fines for:
- Late return of library books or other library items
- Duplicate the library card if it gets lost
- Lost books or any other library items
- Damaged books or other library items
- Printing and photocopies
Does the library charge entry fees?
- Access to libraries is free, patrons are not charged to use libraries and their services.
