School Library Journal Review
Gr 5-9-Kerrod explains the processing of raw materials including metal, chemical raw materials, and fossil fuels, as well as how we use metals, synthetics, fibers, adhesives, ceramics, silicon, etc. The need to recycle and conserve our natural resources is addressed. Maddison includes topics from early methods of communication, such as the telegraph and radio, to the explanation of modern-day transmission of messages via various methods including telephone, wired and wireless networks, cellular phones, and satellites. Plentiful diagrams, photos, and drawings add color, appeal, and interest to each spread. These books should provide interested readers and researchers with ample facts and information as well as much food for thought.-Susan Shaver, Hemingford Public Schools, NE (c) Copyright 2010.
