Booklist Review
This fourth installment in a series featuring the Rapture and rise of Nicolae, the Antichrist, begins with a nearly worldwide earthquake. It also throws our Tribulation Force heroes, Buck and Ray, into panic, so that they do little to scheme against Nicolae, needing all their energies merely to survive. They thread their way through uplifted roads and downed power lines, encountering myriad small tragedies as they search for their wives, apparently lost in the cataclysm. The earthquake also slows Nicolae in his relentless consolidation of power. He's further frustrated with the "soul harvest," or conversion to evangelical fervor of some 144,000 Jews. All descend upon Israel as Armageddon looms. This series, which will have at least one more installment, has already sold 1,250,000 copies, and there's a movie in the works. --John Mort
Library Journal Review
The fourth book in the "Left Behind" series (Nicolae, Tyndale, 1997) brings back Rayford Steele and Buck Williams, staunch members of the Tribulation Force, an evangelical group fighting evil Nicolae Carpathia. An earthquake has left both men searching for their loved ones while they attempt to bring about Nicolae's downfall. Readers of the earlier books should be thrilled at the return of their heroes, and the action and intrigue here certainly matches that in the rest of the series. Characterization, especially of the female characters, is thin, but that shouldn't dull fans' demand. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
