School Library Journal Review
Gr 5-8-These titles examine major inventions and their effect on society. Dowswell shows how medical instruments and procedures went from experimentation to daily use over the course of human history. Williams looks at technology and the inventions that preceded the computers we know today. The inventions are arranged chronologically, with diagrams showing how they work and biographical information about the inventors. The full-color photos, reproductions, and drawings are plentiful and effectively used. A key-date chart flows across the bottom of each recto, showing when other related innovations occurred. The information contained in the books is well organized and will be a boon to report writers. While there are many books available for this audience about inventions and inventors, these titles will be helpful to researchers seeking specific information.-Elizabeth Stumpf, Clearfield Middle School, PA (c) Copyright 2010.
