School Library Journal Review
PreS-Large pastel pictures and simple rhyming text in this ode to dinosaurs set it up to be a favorite among storytellers for the very young. Vaguely reminiscent of Sandra Boynton's Oh My! Oh My! Oh Dinosaurs!, this offering also incorporates colors, opposites, and fun vocabulary like gallop and plodding. Curious young listeners will pore over the watercolor visual index in the back featuring nine interesting dino varieties. VERDICT Though the somewhat generic title could potentially doom it to obscurity in a herd of other prehistoric picture books, Volpin's clever vocabulary and endearing watercolors make this a satisfying addition to the storytime canon.-Jenna Boles, Greene County Public Library, Beavercreek, OH © Copyright 2018. Publisher's Weekly Review
The title says it all: this is a book for dinosaur lovers. With upbeat rhymes and jewel-toned watercolors, debut author Volpin celebrates prehistoric creatures ("We love their spots and zigzags, too,/ their colors-yellow, red, and blue"). The usual dinos (triceratops, stegosaurus) are featured, as are the less familiar silvisaurus, minmi, and ouranosaurus. Regardless of type, all are equally friendly looking, with sweet, often toothless smiles and inquisitive expressions. Even the tyrannosaurus looks like it's laughing when it roars, eyes crinkled shut and grin enormous. In addition to a few predictable rhymes ("tall/small"), Volpin provides some delightful lines that build toward a fitting concluding sentiment: "In fact, we really love them all!/ We'd only love them more, we think/ if somehow they weren't all extinct."
